Hola Laszlo,
Once again my sincere thanks to you over the years and still going for all your hard work to keep us old MSB students in touch as best you can.
It was sad to hear of Fr Cuthbert’s passing and it should remind us that we are all just a few steps behind this great man.
Stay as best you can in your beloved Venezuela and hope all your family and all our friends from MSB in Venezuela are well.
Tim Mew & family in Melbourne, Australia.

I have found a few misplaced emails that I should have sent long time ago. Tony, please forgive.

Ladislao,
Talking about father Eugene, one day I fell down in the pole vault pit and broke my wrist, I always smile when I see the new air filled landing pads the current athletes use for pole vaulting, our pole vault pit was sawdust and as hard as concrete, both bones just above the wrist were broken  [confirmed later by X-ray and a cast which I had to endure for 6 weeks] so Scruts sent me up to the dorm, it was Saturday so no nurse, when I got to the dorm, I was met with the astonishing sight of Eugene doing pull ups on the first cubicle next to his room in his shorts.
That night after I told the boys about it, Edward Lloyd, Steve Mailingsmith and cow spray [anyone remember cow spray's real name?] mobilised the boys who waited until Eugene was about to make his last round, and they started doing pull ups on their cubicles, forcing a clearly embarrassed Eugene to flee and seek refuge in his room.
As far as the colour of the cubicle was concerned, I was never invited to choose the colour of MY cubicle, and if the place was still functional I would sue.
Does anyone else remember picking the colour of their cubicle? as I recall, all were painted this really sick cream colour. the cubicle next to mine was occupied by the french boy Piton, does anyone remember him?
My job was to help him with his English since he did not speak one word of the language, Piton had one wrangler Jeans which he wore everyday for the entire term, he did not have to hang up those jeans, it stood up by itself when he took it off.
My cubicle was close to the toilet, it was on the side of the dorm which faced the mountain, from my cubicle, on most nights the toilet looked like it was on fire, and there was that much smoke coming out of it. The amount of cigarettes we threw in the toilets at the mount killed all the bacteria in the septic tanks and caused an environmental hazard.
The poetic justice of it all was that it was we who caused that incredible stench in the first place, that were forced to breathe it in day and night.

P.S. Ladislao, I bought a P4 computer and in the process of transferring all of the data to the new computer from the old hard drive the idiot technician erased all of my e-mails, so please send me the link to your site again, I had to wait for you to email me with the new circular before I could tell you about it since I have lost all emails and addresses.
I have decided to run in the 2006 Presidential elections, I announced it last week check www.tonyvguy.com, commentary UF, I have taken over the United Force Political party and even if I don't get the presidency [I don't think I can anyway] I will, with the other small parties control the parliament and hold the balance of power in the country.

Cheers Ladislao,
I have a 26 ft cabin cruiser; it is not so much a luxury as a necessity, since as the owner of the country's only television network I have to visit some very remote areas. I go on the Essequibo River every other week, usually the second and fourth Saturday’s of each month.
Yesterday Saturday 28th December 2002 I visited Father Hildebrand, [the pictures will follow] they have built the new monastery about 2 miles from the town of Bartica, it is where the Essequibo and Mazaruni river meet to form the Mighty Essequibo, they also say Mass and give council to the citizens of that town, to do it they have to drive through the 2 miles of jungle that separates the monastery from the town, they have no electricity, no telephones, no treated water there.
The monastery at this time consists of father Hildebrand and three other priests. Including Father Ferrier, actually he is not the brother that looked after the bees at the mount.
It was a good day to visit, since the current abbot of Mount St.  Benedict was there, he gave me a note pad which declares that Mt. St.  Benedict is celebrating their 90th anniversary. I have scanned a page and attached it hereto.
I am glad that you prompted me to visit them, they are in bad shape.
The place is lovely with a wonderful view of the river and they have planted some beautiful ornamental trees, crotons, hibiscus, etc, but the problems of no electricity and no telephones are almost too huge a burden for them,
They have tried to do a solar power installation but it is not very successful, the batteries are all dead they also have a small generator, I will help them all I can, I will give you more details later.
Fr. Hildebrand has an email address it is benedictines@solutions2000.net, It is written on the note, he uses a  telephone whenever he visits Bartica with his laptop to say Mass in the  town. I am copying this note to him to reassure him that I have not forgotten the wonderful hospitality they extended to us that day, [they make an excellent sorrel liqueur] and I will help as much as I possibly can.
After the holidays 2nd Saturday in January perhaps, I intend to visit them again with Jewel and the children to discuss the promised help in a more tangible way.
The operation has been going on for 14 years. For Father Hildebrand’ benefit, I am attaching a research I did, for a house that Christopher Ram [he is the one who writes the economic articles in the Stabroek news on Sundays, father] and he and I want to build a small weekend cottage on the Essequibo.
It will give you an idea of what you have to do and what the cost will be.

Man, you guys must have been fit!
But come to think of it, I have made that walk hundreds of times myself, in company with everyone else, as we had to go down to "Grounds" on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and back up the hill again, in time to bathe, do homework and get to bed.
Let's see: 8 months of the year multiplied by 4 weeks per month = 32 weeks per year multiplied by 3 times per week = 96 times per year multiplied by 5 years = roughly 500 times I did that walk.
No wonder we were all so fit.
No obesity in those days.

Dear Friends,
----------------------------------------------------------
11 October 09:17
Some brothers are connected through e-mail, Whats App and perhaps communicate also via Twitter, Snapchat, and maybe via other blogs, etc. There is no central repository for us alumni in today's world of 24/7 live and constant communication. Bottom line...to know what is going on requires each one of us to communicate via the preferred channel. Know that in the past, some have voiced concerns about using these means due to cybersecurity related privacy issues. As for me I have been in India for about a week doing consulting work with Tata Steel in Jamshedpur.
-------------------------------------------------------------------.
11 October at 05:30
Sir Kazim Abasali & Sir George Mickiewicz, now I am back on email, so I am having these conversations with some brothers there, but they are not on facebook, then we have so much on Facebook, but don't share with our email brothers. Sir Ladislao & Sir Don kept the emails going with the circulars, however that is now limited due to el culo in vene, and the hurricane Irma, What is happening with our local chapter? Any meetings, how are our brothers doing?  Keeping the fire burning wherever we can. The club / The Circular / The Local chapter./ Long Live The Alumni. Cheers 1944 - 2017.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
How hot is it?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------.
Anyhow some brothers are left out on email as we are rarely on email
----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Big Happy Birthday to my big brother & friend Sir Terrence Ferreira and many more, keep making great art. Cheers & Cheers, The Club.
--------------------------------------------------------------.
I would like to wish our brother & friend Sir Garth Mc Alpin a very Happy Birthday and many more Cheers The Club.

AB/MSB CIRCULARS - Don Mitchell requested several weeks ago for someone to help Ladislao post his most recent Circulars. Don still cannot do it due to the loss of power in Antigua caused by the hurricane. Last Circular was posted 2 months ago. In advance, thanks to anyone who can/will do it.  (Don responds:  It is okay, George.  I can get online occasionally now to be able to publish the Circulars.  Thanks for worrying.)
-----------------------------------------------------.

Sir Kaz, were you in contact with Sir Don on this? We had the circulars on our Facebook site, did it disappear? Sorry, I am not on Hotmail much, confused ha ha.

Dear Abbey Boys,
Sometime has passed, since the great leader of our troop has entered into the light. The entrance to the castle is slowly closing, only one inner guard remains from the Dutch monks that came, and he's growing old. We are spiritually strongly connected.  However our physical connection to the Mount is growing weak. We seek to keep and continue our relationship.  However 99.9%, of the people who knew us up there, where we grew up, are gone. We are a lost tribe, as the place from whence we came, is now forbidden. We continue to burn a candle in the rain. Long Live Our Mount. Yours Truly, The Club.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Viva El Mount y sus dicipulos!!!
Hail to the Mount and its disciples!!
---------------------------------------------------------------
Salvador Coscarart
That is very true what you just wrote.
One last of our teachers is still standing guiding the knights. May god give him strength and health.
----------------------------------------------------------
Happy Birthday Shaun Gianetti,
Abundant blessings to you.

Hi, Glen,
Good to hear from you.
A few minutes ago, I conned my way into the C&W main office, and am logged on to one of their internet access points so I can get my email down on my computer and do my updates of my anti-virus software, etc.  We have been relying up to now on Maggie’s Korean schoolgirl’s hand-held toy to get onto the internet.  You can’t do much with that but read newspapers and send short messages.
Our house has only minor water damage.  On the other hand, our guest shack has had a small nuclear bomb go off in it.  It will take a lot of work (and money) to make it habitable, so don’t plan a holiday trip to us this year.  The yard is totally devastated, as in sent back to the stone age.
While every private home suffered from minor to major damage, the worst damage in Anguilla is to the public infrastructure.  All the public schools, the police stations, the immigration and customs offices, the airport tower, the power station, lost their roofs where these were not made of reinforced concrete slabs.  The worst sight is the power and telephone lines.  Nearly all of them are snapped off and were strewn across the roads (or they were for a couple of days after the hurricane struck; they are all shoved off the road now).  My uninformed opinion is that it will be sometime next year before power is fully restored to the island.
The people are coping well with the crisis.  There is a lot of good natured helping of each other, and the government is doing a good job of keeping people informed on the government radio station and various websites.  A lot of aid and assistance has been promised, but only time will tell is this is real or just superficial.  Take water: most Anguillians have a 20,000 gallon cistern, so international offers of plane-loads of bottled water do not mean much.  It tastes a little better than cistern water, but that is all.  Hopefully, Carilec (the regional cooperative effort among the islands’ power companies where they all come to the assistance of a stricken island) will prove more substantial.  After Hurricane Luis in 1995 it was amazing to see Grenada’s ‘Grenlec’, St Lucia’s ‘Lucelec’, St Vincent’s ‘Vinlec’, Antigua’s ‘APUA’ and others, with their men in their national colours and operating their national trucks brought in by ship lined up on one highway with their separate teams working on pole after pole restoring electricity to the island.  Though it took 3 months for the entire island’s power to be restored, the main population centers were back on stream within a month of the total destruction that Luis brought.  So, I can hope the same will happen again.  The British have promised 55 million pounds of assistance for the BVI, TCI and Anguilla.  I fear that most of that will be in placing 2,500 soldiers and naval ships in Road Town and in TCI to control the looting there.  I understand 120 violent criminals escaped from a damaged BVI facility and are roaming Tortola pillaging and looting.  Nothing like that in Anguilla.  Just plenty of cleaning up and rebuilding.
Keep well.
Don

I may be out of contact for a few days after Tuesday.  Below is the latest update from my weather service.
We are not in any personal danger.  Our house is built like Fort Knox, pure reinforced concrete roofs, walls and floors.
But, at our age, who needs the stress of putting up hurricane shutters?
Don
UPDATE MONDAY 10 AM - OK – this is now getting REALLY scary – as in life-threatening.  Below just sent out by Crown Weather Service:
“I Cannot Stress Enough The Urgency Of Being Prepared For Major Hurricane Irma For Those Of You On The Islands Of Barbuda, St. Martin, St. Maarten, Anguilla & The British Virgin Islands – The core of at least a Category 4 hurricane is forecast to move right over you late Tuesday night and Wednesday. This is likely to be as a bad as or much worse than Hurricane Luis from 1995. Please take this hurricane very seriously and prepare now for a major hurricane impact from Tuesday night through Wednesday.”
Get ready NOW!

Don,
Thank you for the update. Thank God that Maggie and you are okay. Our hope is that the rebuilding process by Government and agencies are swift and you enjoy some level of normalcy as quick as can be. The stark reality, as you shared, is that there is a great deal of damage and there are lots of factors to get things up to speed again. Just know that we are with you in spirit. Take care, my friend.
Kaz
P. S. What about the 'pets' in the yard? Were they secured away safely?

Admire your positive attitude amidst the destruction and destitution that you have described.  It appears that it will take a long time to restore those utilities that we need and take for granted in our daily lives.  Would it help you if we can ship a generator or two after the transportation services have been restored.  How is your food situation?.....Do you have access to the medicines that you may need?  Just trying to think about how we might be able to help you for those needs that are currently unavailable there....sorry if I am over-reaching.
Hang in there,
